Coming this Summer to the 213 Listening Room!

Hello, friends!

It’s been pretty quiet here on the homefront, but we’ll be opening up the Listening Room this summer for a few special events that you won’t want to miss!

Thursday, July 6-
A Night With Orphaned Believers

Join us for our first ever author event with Seattle-based writer Sara Billups. Her new book, Orphaned Believers, is “part spiritual memoir of an apocalyptic childhood and part commentary on growing up as an evangelical kid during the culture wars.”

Orphaned Believers follows the journey of a generation of Christian exiles reckoning with the tradition that raised them and searching for a new way to participate in the story of God. Because for all the baggage, we still belong, and a bigger, more beautiful story awaits.”

Reserve your seat for a conversation with Billups about Orphaned Believers and her reflections on publishing a book as a first-time author. Light drinks and snacks will be provided. *Donations will be accepted to help cover the cost.

Tickets are available here.

(Get your copy of the book here or request it from your local bookseller before the event!)

Thursday, July 27.
Andy Squyres returns to the Listening Room

We’re pleased to welcome Andy Squyres back to the Listening Room this summer!

“Part singer, part songwriter, part uneducated lover of words,” Andy Squyres is one of our absolute favorite artists from the past few years.

Get your tickets here.
Light drinks and snacks will be provided.

Looking ahead–

Stay tuned for a semi-private fundraising event planned on August 20 for our friends David and Tiffany Lamb who will be visiting us on furlough from their ministry in Papau New Guinea. Live music. Conversation. Snacks and other goodies. Musician is TBD. Watch our Facebook page for event information later this Summer.

Cheers!

About Penny and Sparrow:

From the heart of Texas, Penny & Sparrow are Andy Baxter and Kyle Jahnke. The former roommates now tour the world inspired by alt country, a love of musicals, and a vast array of books that include “The Fault In Our Stars” and “A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius.” Their most recent record, “Struggle Pretty,” released independently and landed #2 on iTunes Singer/Songwriter and Top 50 Billboard at #49. Catch Penny & Sparrow playing their soulpiercing songs and sharing stories from their heart on tour near you.

Doors open at 7pm; Show starts at 7:30.

This venue is located in a private residence. All attendees must have paid tickets (email receipt, mobile tickets, or self-print tickets are acceptable). Tickets will only be made available at the door if seating is available, so don’t count on it!

There are only 45 tickets available for this event.

Early Bird tickets are available online for $15 until midnight on October 1st. Tickets on and after Oct 1, including any available at the door, will be $20. (Cash only at the door)

There will be light refreshments available, but beer & wine are BYOB. Please take note that this is a private concert, not a house party, and be respectful of the venue owners when you consider what you bring.

The venue’s preferred payment method, to insure prompt payment to the performer, is PayPal.

Merry Christmas from the 213 Listening Room

It’s December, nearly Christmas, and things have been quiet here at the Listening Room. Musically, at least. This venue is in our home, after all, and our lives still move on.

We don’t have any events scheduled here for now, although we’ve received quite a few solicitations from some awesome touring artists. I apologize if we’ve not responded. This year was very busy for us and we needed a few months off from booking and planning and hosting these house concerts.

The space is still here and, for as long as we are here, too, we will probably be welcoming artists and friends (and strangers) into our home. I’d love to hear some suggestions about how we can make it less stressful (physically and financially) on our family, while still inviting all of these wonderful people into our home to share their work. I’ve considered us using a new venue outside our home, creating a volunteer base to help with the events, and perhaps fundraising since we currently pay all related costs out of our pockets.

Although we don’t have any concrete plans for the next few months, I do have a personal “short list” of artists that I’d host in an instant if they were willing to visit us.

Included on my “come see us” list:
Waterdeep,
Rosie Thomas,
Damien Jurado,
Penny and Sparrow,
Daniel Martin Moore,
Sleeping At Last,
Josh Garrels,
and Audrey Assad.

And these are just the folks who might actually put a venue like ours on their tour. We have other people in mind, as well, if this little experiment in hospitality ever grew.

For now, check back for updates and let us know if/when any fantastic artists are coming our way. Maybe we can find some room for them.

Cheers!

Liz (and John)
